Ellwindris and the others stood still in tight formation, it was the day of inductions. All the new recruits would be officially inducted into the order, promotions would also be given out here. Ellwindris stood nervously, it had began to rain. Of course..Is this a omen or a new beginning? Ellwindris shook those thoughts out of her head, she only had one thing on her mind and that was to prove herself to everyone. She was thankful for them freeing her, but ashamed she almost tried killing them all. She had to do this, for them and for herself.
The rain pitter pattered as it clashed with the sentinels, a eerie silence fell upon them as Fafen began to spoke. Fafen paced back and forth in front of the line, "Many of you have endured hardships, some of you are still new here. The fact remains however, that all of you have worked hard to get here." Fafen looked to the back of the row, where the more senior member stood, "Our guilds conduct ourselves by three codes of honor, do any of you remember what they are? Name me one of them." Jruas was the first to speak up, "Life before Death."
Fafen nods, she then turns to the front row of recruits, "Do any of you know what that might mean?" The row of recruits, including Ellwindris shuffled their feet as they all thought about it. Zelthen was the first to speak, "To live before you die?" Fafen smiles, "Anyone else?" Ellwindris raised her hand, "To know when to take a life, and when to spare one?" Fafen nods and smiles, "Does anyone else have a guess?" The first row remained quiet, Fafen looked to the back row again, "What is the second one?" Caiyala piped up, "Strength before Weakness."
Fafen nods, "What does this one mean, recruits?" Zelthen was the first to speak again, "To show my enemies my strength before they see my weaknesses." Fafen nods, "Anyone else?" Ellwindris spoke up, "For those who have strength to protect those who cannot, the weak." Fafen smiles, "Ellwindris is the closest, anyone else?" No one else had spoken up, Fafen's gaze returned to the back row, "And the final one?" This time it was Holifax, "Journey before Destination."
Fafen pacing once more nodded, "And what does that mean, recruits?" Ellwindris pondered for a moment before finally speaking, "The destination matters not, it is the journey that matters most. The experience with friends and family you gain is far more important than the final outcome." Fafen smiled and nodded at Ellwindris, "All of these answers are correct. These ideals is how we conduct ourselves and now, I want each of you to take this oath and hope that you conduct yourselves by these very same ideals."
One by one Fafen made her way down the line, each recruit taking the oath and receiving their own honorary messenger owl. Of course, it had to be birds! Of all the things they could have picked, it had to be birds! Why can't it ever be kittens? Or maybe frogs?! Ellwindris was thankful for Fafen still allowing her to join the ordered but still sighed when she had to accept the owl given to her. She wasn't surprised if she was visibly shaking in her boots, everyone had theirs fears and her's just happened to be birds.
Fafen smiled at everyone, "Now it is time for promotions." Everyone seemed to perk up, this is what everyone had been waiting for. The promotions were probably always the highlights for these gatherings, a chance to show everyone how you have proved yourself as a valuable member. All the recruits, even Ellwindris had received a promotion. A keeper? Interesting. Sounds fun, can't wait what Elune has in store for me! Ellwindris was excited and even more so when Fafen asked if there were any nominations to become a sentinel. Ellwindris immediately raised her hand, "I nominate Jruas." Kale, Holifax and a few others quickly agreed, Ellwindris wonder what Jruas' face looked like at that moment.
Fafen raised an eyebrow at Ellwindris, "And for what reasons do you nominate Jruas?" Ellwindris nodded with a determined look on her face, "When I was in my darkest hours, as you all know, he was there. Deep into the darkness that was my heart, he was able to reach the real me. He was the only one I had not attempted to kill, his words reached me and helped me recovered from my crazed state." With that, Fafen nodded and called forth Jruas. Ellwindris' ears twitched as Jruas made his way to the front to stand before Fafen. I wonder what he is thinking? If only I could see his face.
After Jruas was made a sentinel, Fafen herself nominated and promoted Kale to sentinel as well. It made Ellwindris happy that her friend had finally gotten the attention he deserved. There was one more promotion to be handed out, Fafen turned to Holifax, "Holifax, if you would please step forward." Holifax stepped and stood before Fafen, "Holifax, you have been a valuable member to this other. I have always been able to turn to you for advice and you've always had my back. This has been long overdue, I am promoting you to Guardian." Cheers and congratulations broke among everyone, everyone even Ellwindris believed he had deserved this.
It seems peace has found it's way back into the sentinels, and the next time something happens, we'll be ready.
